19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his first championship for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a difficult period, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time coach his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's maiden championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court since spring of 2023.

The win also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is really nice," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional victory, took control to create a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early opportunities in a tight final set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
